Principles of Valuation is an introductory guide to valuation methodology from first principles. It is presented as a practical, straight forward narrative, yet does not shirk the more difficult conceptual challenges that aspiring valuers face. Its reviews topics that are often overlooked such as how to inspect and measure building, how to undertake a valuation and how to set it out on the page. The five principle valuation methods are covered in detail and each one is illustrated with simple examples that provide models to address the majority of common valuation problems. Key features include:
Useful glossary that provides information on challenging terms;
Blackground information on the valuation process; and
Detailed exploration of conventional and contemporary (growth implicit and growth explicit) investment techniques.
It is impossible to consider valuation in its entirety and areas such as the application of the main methods are omitted. However, where appropriate, guidance on further reading is provided, allowing students and practitioners to further their studies.
Written in an accessible style, the book will provide students new to the subject, as well as practitioners wishing to refresh their techniques, the ideal starting point for a more detailed exploration of the subject.
